Braille Blues Daddy is an album of raw electric blues in the great Chicago tradition, made popular in the 1950s by Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf. During the 80s and 90s, the only blues band that visitors to New Orleans would hear was Bryan Lees Jump Street Five Band at the Old Absinthe House on Bourbon Street. Blues veteran Bryan Lee, blind since childhood, became a true New Orleans blues institution and kept on delivering his own fiery brand of blues power long after the Old Absinthe House was gone. read more »
Bryan Lee grew up in the heartland of America in a small Illinois town in between Indianapolis, Indiana and St. Louis, Missouri, and while he would be the first to say he doesnt know the first thing about West or East Coast living, he does know a little something about what every human being longs for and holds sacred - love. read more »
This was my introduction to Bryan Lee and I was not dissapointed. This is really a fine example of how good blues can sound live. There are some really nice guests that appear on this also, by the way the same lineup was also on the Saturday night disc, this should really have come out as a double live album. James Cotton is on this and although he does not wail the same as he once did it is still James Cotton. This is show #60, Braille Blues Daddy Blues for the first part of November, 2008. Hey, welcome back! Ive got a special show for you this time! Im going to feature an artist nicknamed the Braille Blues Daddy! Its the one and only Bryan Lee ! I saw him recently on the Kenny Wayne Shepherd DVD Ten Days Out . I was asked if I had any interest in interviewing him before he had a local concert! I was thinking Are they crazy? Of course! So are you ready to hear an interview and some of the Braille Blues Daddys Blues? I hope so! Crank it up my friends, were off and running! Well, we started off show #60 with Bryan Lee singing 29 Ways. Who else can we expect to hear from on this Braille Blues Daddy Blues Show? read more »
A longtime staple of New Orleans' famed Bourbon Street club circuit, blues guitarist Bryan Lee was born in Wisconsin in 1945; inspired by B.B. King, Albert King and others, his Midwest upbringing also resulted in a distinctively Chicago-styled sound which his long stay in the South did little to erase. Billed variously as "The Braille Blues Daddy" and "The Blind Blues Daddy," Lee first surfaced in New Orleans in 1983, quickly becoming a favorite of tourists in the city's French Quarter and regularly playing live at least six nights a week; he made his solo debut in 1991 with The Blues Is..., followed in 1993 by Memphis Bound. After 1995's Heat Seeking Missile, Lee issued 1997's Live at the Old Absinthe House Bar: Friday Night, an ideal souvenir for the many patrons of his club dates. Crawfish Lady followed in the spring of 2000, and Six String Therapy in fall 2002.A topic you would like to see and can't find it? A tag or keyword that would help you to navigate?
